Our dynamic neighborhood is a great place for dining, entertainment and cultural venues. A new addition, DECANTsf (1168 Folsom), has hit the SoMa scene and it looks like a wonderful complement to the neighborhood.

So what will you find at DECANTsf? For San Francisco imbibers, from novice to expert, DECANTsf is a wine bar, bottle shop, educational events space, and consulting firm that combines hospitality, education, and curated selections for the every day drinker. They provide a personalized sommelier experience, engaging neighborhood locals, connoisseurs, and industry professionals alike in a relaxed and inviting setting.

According to a recent write-up in a SF Chronicle article,

“Decant SF “will be whatever you want it to be,” says co-owner Simi Grewal: a happy hour stop, an event venue, a personalized sommelier portal — and more.”

Co-owner Cara Patricia was drawn to “the idea of a wine shop where you can also stay and enjoy a bottle,” she says.

EaterSF also had a wonderful article (a great read) showcasing the owners’ background and objectives:

Grewal and Patricia met while studying at the CIA’s Accelerated Wine and Beverage program. Their focus at DecantSF is providing a friendly, approachable retail experience with an emphasis on women, who represent the majority of wine consumers in the US, but can go overlooked as customers.

At DecantSF, Grewal and Patricia hope to engage customers of all wine experience levels while emphasizing good value wines and sustainability: Expect lots of options from the Loire Valley, Beaujolais, eastern Italy, and Spain, “where you get a lot for your money from great, small wholistic producers.” A selection of beer is available, too, focused on female brewers and breweries that can be harder to find in California.

Although DECANTsf hasn’t been open very long Yelper Alicia G had this to say about her experience:

Incredible new space for upscale drinks and events. Sit and sip or buy to go, these ladies have anything and everything to make entertaining a breeze! Great selection of beers and wine.
