Hello, October. Life at NEMA puts you in the center of it all. This month the City brings outdoor flicks, Oktoberfest activities, Fleet Week fun, block parties and more to the neighborhood and beyond. Here are a few of the many must attend events to get on your social calendar this month:

October 1, First Tuesdays Free Run + Yoga. Be a part of the running, the yoga, or both! Meet at 735 Market Street inside the store at 6:30pm. The yoga session will begin shortly after the group returns from their run.

October 2, ArtSpan Artist Reception at City Hall. Celebrate the work of ArtSpan Artists Audrey Heller & Melissa Mohammadi, currently on view in the office of District 11 Supervisor Ahsha Safai.

October 3-5, Mendelssohn Violin Concerto & Mozart's Jupiter. The brilliant Polish-born, German-based conductor Marek Janowski makes his much-anticipated return to the San Francisco Symphony.

October 4, PROXY Fall Film Festival. A month of outdoor cinema kicks off at the PROXY Walk-In Theater.

October 4, WhiskyFest San Francisco. Taste from a selection of 350 whiskeys and learn from master distillers and blenders.

October 4, 11, 18, 25, Oktoberfest at Civic Center Plaza. Celebrate fall at the Bi-Rite Civic Center Cafe every Friday in October with beer and wine, food, music and games.

October 5, Sharaku Unframed & Wind Whisperer: Left Coast Chamber Ensemble. The piece features the samisen, a traditional Japanese instrument at the Asian Art Museum.

October 6, 1st Sundays Block Party. Join the fun on Fulton St at Larkin from 11am- 3pm. Plus, enjoy the Heart of the City Farmers' Market in UN Plaza and visit the Asian Art Museum.

October 6- 14, Fleet Week. Navy ships at Marina Green, a parade of ships under the Golden Gate Bridge, air shows with the Blue Angels, and military dogs.

October 6, SF Music Day 2019. Experience the vitality of Bay Area music making in all its forms at SF Music Day, the Bay Area’s free daylong music festival in downtown San Francisco.

Thru October 6, Concerts in the park. Golden Gate Park Band plays a variety of music (classical, marches, opera, swing, and show tunes) at Spreckels Temple of Music in Golden Gate Park.

October 10, ArtSpan ArtLaunch 2019. The SF Open Studios Exhibition opening reception featuring over 400 original artworks.

October 11, Día de Los Muertos 2019 : City of Souls. SOMArts’ Día de Los Muertos exhibition is one of the most internationally diverse Day of the Dead celebrations in the United States.

October 12, Festival under the stars. See dozens of music, dance, and art performances at Yerba Buena Night around Yerba Buena Lane.

October 13-27, The Marriage of Figaro. In this production at the SF Opera, director Michael Cavanagh uses Mozart's wit and energy as a lens on colonial America and the divides that would forge a nation.

October 21, Lang Lang with the SF Symphony. Experience the musical fireworks of pianist Lang Lang in his much-anticipated return to Davies Symphony Hall.

October 26, Lumpia Palooza. Indulge in a variety of savory classics like garlic, kare kare, and chicken afritada lumpia at SoMa StrEat Food Park.

October 27, Rosé Déjeuner Brunch Series. Sip on rosé, savor your favorite brunch classics, and take in the views 120 feet above Market Street at rooftop bar and lounge Charmaine’s!

Thru October 27, Yerba Buena Gardens Festival. Hear music concerts and watch dance performances outdoors.

October 31, Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde w/ Dorothy Papadakos, Organ. Spend your Halloween at SFJAZZ!

Thru November 14, Pop-Up Interactive Dance. For 12 weeks, LINES Dance Center is hosting free, 30-minute pop-up interactive dance performances in UN Plaza every Thursday at 1 pm.
