Time to say goodbye to 2022 and welcome all that 2023 has to offer. NEMA San Francisco is positioned at the intersection of SOMA, Civic Center, Hayes Valley, and The Mission neighborhoods—each offering a unique appeal and distinct character. January in the neighborhood and beyond brings a variety of live entertainment. Here are a few of the many must attend events that are up next this month near NEMA:

January 1-16, Ice Rink in Union Square. The outdoor rink is open daily with ice skating for all ages.

January 3-8, Chris Botti. Botti’s SFJAZZ shows have become a New Year tradition, and always sell out.

January 5, Full Moon Mystical Kundalini Yoga. Come together to experience a meditative & radiant practice for the Full Moon.

January 7, Lips & Lashes Drag Brunch. Lips & Lashes Drag Brunch, hosted by Carnie Asada, is a one of a kind variety show featuring the Bay Areas most diverse entertainment.

January 7, SF Neon Chinatown Walking Tour. Walk to find forgotten clusters of vintage neon signs in the streets of Chinatown, back alleys and backstories are included.

January 8, The Sunday Skate Roll. This is the Church Of 8 Wheels 1st Sunday session where anyone can come in and get their skate groove on.

January 13 , San Francisco Tape Music Festival 2023. America's only festival devoted to the performance of audio works projected in three-dimensional space by 46 local and international composers.

January 14-15, Flower Market Fair. The Flower Fair is the place to come to purchase fresh flowers, fruits, candies and brand new supplies for the home to begin the new lunar year.

January 15, Macramé & Sip. In this class you can create an exciting wall hang or plant holder while learning different ties and knots to create your own macramé masterpiece!

January 19, In Conversation with Pico Iyer. Acclaimed writer Pico Iyer explores themes from his new book, “The Half Known Life: In Search of Paradise,” with Robert Mintz at the Asian Art Museum.

January 21, Locomotion Workshop for Weightlifters. In this workshop, you will learn how to master the ABC’s of locomotion, how and why they work, and how to link these movements into flows.

January 22, Civic Symphony at Herbst Theatre. The San Francisco Civic Music Association presents SF Civic Symphony's Winter Concert, "Portraits of America: Bernstein, Still, Barber, Copland".

January 22, Choy Sun Doe. Choy Suns will grace Chinatown and pass out thousands of “Lai Sees” to eagerly waiting children. All the “Lai Sees” will contain a chocolate gold coin.

January 26-29, Jason Marsalis Vibes Quartet at SFJAZZ. Jason Marsalis is the youngest member of the illustrious Marsalis clan, but his accomplishments would make fitting laurels for an octogenarian.

January 28, 2023 Bay Area Brew Fest. The Bay Area Brew Festival returns from a three year hiatus, featuring over 50 breweries, hundreds of beers, food trucks, dj, and much more!

Now-March. Entwined. One of San Francisco’s most celebrated (and popular) public light installations, Entwined, will light up Golden Gate Park through March.

Zumba in Civic Center, Wednesday & Friday-Sunday. Zumba instructor Matt Ziegler leads classes in Civic Center Plaza (weather permitting) on Wednesdays and Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays with SF Rec & Parks Zumba in the Parks. The class is for all ages and skill levels; meet on the paved portion of the plaza adjacent to City Hall. See the schedule here.
