December in the neighborhood and beyond brings holiday fun and a variety of live entertainment. Here are a few of the many must attend events that are up next this month near NEMA:

December 1-4, Jazz Mafia Holiday Heist. The irrepressibly funky Jazz Mafia collective celebrates the season with their Holiday Heist, purloining songs from under every tree at the SFJAZZ.

December 1-4, Asian Art Museum’s Holiday Artisan Market. The market returns, featuring good from local makers.

December 1-18, Great Dickens Christmas Fair. An elaborate holiday party with hundreds of costumed players performing and interacting with patrons theatrically-lit music halls, pubs, dance floors, and festive shops.

December 1-24, A Christmas Carol at the A.C.T. A Christmas Carol is a beloved San Francisco tradition this time of year.

December 1-31, Skate San FranDISCO. The rink is located at Fulton Plaza (next to the Main Library) and features both the traditional roller rink flooring and a roof to keep the fog and sun off your stylish moves!

December 1-January 16, Holiday Ice Rink in Union Square. San Francisco’s favorite outdoor rink is back with daily ice skating for all ages and special events scheduled throughout the holiday season.

December 1-March. Entwined. One of San Francisco’s most celebrated (and popular) public light installations, Entwined, will again return to Golden Gate Park next month — just in time to illuminate this holiday season.

December 2, Hayes Valley Holiday Stroll. A festive celebration, the Hayes Valley Holiday Stroll returns for its 32nd year.

December 4, SF Opera Chorus in Concert. The concert program highlights the San Francisco Opera Chorus under the direction of San Francisco Opera’s new Chorus Director John Keene.

December 4, Wreath Making and Wine Sipping. Use dried and preserved flowers to make wreaths while sipping wine at DECANTsf,

December 6-7, The Colors of Christmas. Join the SF Symphony and legendary artists Oleta Adams, Peabo Bryson, Ruben Studdard, and Jody Watley for a spectacular program of Christmas classics and greatest hits.

December 7, Civic Center Plaza Tree Lighting. This fun event features festive holiday performances, food, music, a toy giveaway, and Makers Village DIY, snow flurries, and more.

December 8-9, Celebrate the Holidays. For this two-night residency, Jekabson brings a joyous program of holiday favorites, joined by special guest vocalist Kalil Wilson at SFJAZZ.

December 8-27, SF Ballet’s Nutcracker. San Francisco Ballet's Nutcracker returns to the War Memorial Opera House stage this December.

December 9, DECANTs Annual Winter Fête. Celebrate the season with a walk-around tasting of Champagne & Sparkling Wine with a Caviar Bar.

December 10, Jim Irsay Collection. Jim Irsay, owner & CEO of the NFL's Indianapolis Colts, is bringing an iconic assemblage of rock music, American history and pop culture to the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium.

December 10, SantaCon. The event starts with a gathering in Union Square. All Santa’s will then head to one of several designated districts around SF for drink specials and other holiday merriment.

December 13, Cool Yule Christmas. Travel back in time to a bygone era as the San Francisco Symphony lights up the stage with songs made legendary by history’s most unforgettable crooner.

December 13-24, 12 Days of Holiday Joy. The twelve days of festivity and fun last from December 13th-24th, with a kickoff Zoom event on the 12th.

December 14, Clay Days Fall 2022. Clay Days is a shared ceramic studio at SOMArts Cultural Center. Projects are self-directed with guidance, troubleshooting, and firings provided by teaching artists.

December 16, Art show Return to Beauty. Enjoy an amazing art exhibition and sale of the 4 great artists just in time for the Holidays at the Herbst Theatre.

December 16-18, POP! Lounge at The Westin St. Francis. Those seeking a luxurious respite from Union Square shopping can toast to the holidays at a glamorous pop-up champagne bar.

December 18, Breakfast with San Francisco Neiman Marcus. Neiman Marcus San Francisco invites you and your family to have Breakfast With Santa, and get your picture taken in a photo booth.

December 23, 12 Days of Holiday Joy: San FranDISCO & Tinseltown Bar. Head to Civic Center for San FranDISCO, an outdoor roller rink with illuminated skates at night!

December 31, New Bohemia NYE 2023 at the Mint. Experience the party that makes it worth it to go out on NYE, New Bohemia at the Mint, for people looking for something unique on NYE.

December 31, 37th Annual Japanese New Year’s. Ring in the New Year by taking a swing at a 2,100-pound, 16th-century Japanese temple bell at the Asian Art Museum.
