September in the neighborhood and beyond is packed with a variety of live entertainment. Here are a few of the can’t-miss events that are up next this month near NEMA.

September 1, Chuseok Celebration and Family Storytelling. Join the Asian Art Museum as they celebrate Chuseok, Korea’s harvest festival, with exciting activities for Free First Sunday.

September 1, California Rum Festival. Taste some of the best rums around at the SOMARTS Art Gallery. You'll get to try a wonderful variety from large, micro, and boutique distilleries. 

September 5, Downtown First Thursdays. Grab your friends and head downtown for DFT on Market Street & 2nd Street. Get ready for more live music, food, drag, DJs, free all-ages activities to fill up the night.

September 5-6, Stanley Clarke & Hiromi Duo. Take in the five-time GRAMMY winner at SFJAZZ. Bassist, composer, and 2022 NEA Jazz Master Stanley Clarke is a peerless innovator.

September 10, Civic Center Nolli Walk: Past, Present, and Future. Enjoy a fast-paced, indoor-outdoor exploration of Civic Center architecture and plazas. The tour will include the California State Office Building, one of the buildings which the tour co-leader David Alpert, FAIA, worked on during his years at SOM. 

September 12, 7x7 & Mr. Tipple's Present: Le Jazz Hot. Direct from San Francisco's Civic Center, Mr. Tipple's Recording Studio brings the act on the road for two special sets at 7x7 Social Club featuring Le Jazz Hot Quartet. Enjoy a jazzy evening with a cocktail trio tasting at the foot of the Transamerica Pyramid, which celebrates its official reopening.

September 14-15, San Francisco Chinatown Autumn Moon Festival. Head over to Grant Avenue in the heart of SF's Chinatown for two full days of entertainment, food, shopping, parades, children's activities, and more. 

September 19, Woman Unveiling and Community Celebration. Celebrate the installation of Portrait of a Phenomenal Woman, a new monument honoring Dr. Maya Angelou. The monument will be sited outside the SF Main Library Larkin Street entrance, located at 100 Larkin Street, between Grove and Fulton streets.

September 19, SF Open Studios Exhibition ArtLaunch. Celebrate the Kick-Off of ArtSpan's 2024 SFOS season with 300+ diverse artworks by SF Bay Area Artists at SOMArts Cultural Center.

September 20, Portugal. The Man. Another Planet Entertainment's latest free San Francisco concert features Portugal. The Man with opener Snacktime, at Civic Center Plaza.

September 21, San Francisco Vintage Market – Fulton Plaza. Third Saturday of the Month. Featuring 30+ vendors focusing on antique and vintage furniture, art, objects for the home, and vintage clothing.

September 21, How Weird Street Faire. One of San Francisco's last iconic, annual street festivals.

September 21-22, 11th Annual More Than 2 Blocks of Art. Explore art throughout reimagined buildings spaces, in plazas, on sidewalks, in galleries and restaurants, and more -- at More Than 2 Blocks of Art.

September 22, Layover Rooftop Happy Hour. Join Charmaine’s social playground for Layover, a Rooftop Happy Hour featuring craft cocktails, light bites, and DJ jams by Motel Club on the 4th Sunday of each month.

September 27, Salonen Conducts Nico Muhly. The world premiere of Nico Muhly’s new Baroque-inspired Piano Concerto at the San Francisco Symphony.

Pre-Theater Dinner. Before heading to the theater, stop off at Charmaine’s to experience an evening for the senses. Enjoy a refreshed dinner menu, craft cocktails and sweeping views of the city. Available on Show Nights Only.

Thru September 27, Hip Hop on the Plaza. Join All the Way Live Foundation in UN Plaza on Friday afternoons for everything hip hop.

Thru October 13, Wicked. Wicked returns home to the Orpheum Theatre to cast a spell on audiences once again.

Free Museum Days. Did you know that many of the city's top museums offer free admission days at least once a month? It's the perfect opportunity to explore iconic exhibits and immerse yourself in the vibrant arts scene. From the de Young Museum to the Asian Art Museum, there are plenty of opportunities to explore art, history, and science in the NEMA San Francisco neighborhood and beyond.

Late Night Specials at Rise Over Run. Enjoy drink specials and light snacks: 9 to 10pm Tuesday and Wednesday and 10 to 11pm Thursday to Saturday.

Thurs-Sun, Sky Rink at SVN West. This summer take a roll around the Sky Rink at SVN West featuring DJs, food and fun. This temporary seasonal rink is open on Saturdays and Sundays before 4pm; and 21+ Thursdays and Fridays, and Saturdays and Sundays after 4pm.

Mon-Thurs | Charmaine’s 7@7 Happy Hour. Meet on the rooftop for an exclusive Sundown Happy Hour featuring 7 unique sips, 7 tempting bites and the golden sky at 7pm.

Civic Center Soundtrack Concert Series, Tuesdays & Fridays, noon-3pm; Thursdays 2-5pm. The free concert series by Illuminate, takes place at Fulton Plaza, between San Francisco Main Library and the Asian Art Museum. The full lineup can be found here.

Heart of the City Farmers Market. Sundays and Wednesdays. A well-loved Farmers Market happening in Civic Center since 1981.

Learn and Play Chess at UN Plaza. Sundays, 11am-1pm Learn and play chess at UN Plaza!
