Minutes from NEMA, the Orpheum Theatre has been named a San Francisco Historical Landmark. Built in 1926 as a showcase for theatre magnate Alexander Pantages, the Orpheum has featured vaudeville, silent films, motion pictures, musical comedy and other theatrical entertainment.

The Orpheum has recently joined the Murals of Hope community project to commemorate the St. Anthony Foundation serving hope daily for the past 70 years to people experiencing homelessness and poverty in San Francisco. Guided by its values of community, justice, personalism, and gratitude, St. Anthony’s serves thousands of free to-go meals daily, in addition to many more essential services for the community.

The stunning murals that are part of the Murals of Hope program at the Orpheum Theatre are Ursa and Hope:

"Ursa" by Matley Hurd, a San Francisco based artist whose work is focused on bright and powerful God-like beings called “Star Goddesses” wearing colorful armored suits or engulfed by cosmic wave forms.

"Hope" by Kalani Ware, a visual artist from Oakland, with roots in Hawaii. He creates, experiments and explores his creativity in color. He strives to create works that will inspire others.
