Alcatraz

Alcatraz Island is part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, which is one of more than 400 national park units across the country. Plan on spending a couple of hours on the island and take in scenic views of the San Francisco skyline and the Golden Gate Bridge. View the city from the Rock, watch the evening skyline light up, and return with a story to tell.

Golden Gate Bridge San Francisco

The Golden Gate Overlook is a great spot for people who want to enjoy the views of the bridge but don’t feel like walking across it. Golden Gate Overlook is a curved concrete plaza that hugs the edge of the coastal bluffs, mimicking the design of the former military fortifications and artillery platforms that surround it. Wooden benches invite you to pause to enjoy a unique viewpoint — both towers of the Golden Gate Bridge perfectly lined up between historic cypress trees. Or look down the hill for a view of native flora and winding footpaths below.

Marin Headlands

Watch hawks trace circles in the sky from rolling hills in the Marin Headlands. Besides its wide-screen vistas of the Pacific and the Golden Gate, Hawk Hill offers fascinating wildlife experiences. The Marin Headlands has an amazing richness of history and biological diversity. Dramatic cliffs of oceanic rock offer sweeping views of the Golden Gate Bridge, and the foghorn frequently resounds over the misty lagoon and rolling hills of coyote brush and sage.

Spend splendid autumn evenings round the fire in the open-air atop our neighboring San Francisco Proper. Charmaine's at SF Proper, 0.5 miles from NEMA. SF’s hottest rooftop bar & lounge located 120 feet above Market Street. Here, the energetic chic of a European terrace meets the laid-back vibes of “California cool.”

Baker Beach is a beautiful and free public beach in San Francisco that offers stunning views of the Golden Gate Bridge. It's a great spot to relax and enjoy the natural beauty of the city. There are picnic tables, grills, parking lots, and public bathrooms, and Baker Beach is also dog-friendly (they are even permitted off-leash). It is also one of the most beautiful beaches on the U.S. West Coast.

San Francisco is also a great area of the US for hiking, especially in the fall when the weather is a little more comfortable for hikes. Among the best hikes in San Francisco include Batteries to Bluff Trail, Seal Rocks Beach, California Coastal Trail: Lands End to Golden Gate Bridge, Golden Gate Park Loop, and Lands End Trail.
