Ice rink hours are from 10 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., daily. 60 minute sessions start every 90 minutes. Figure and hockey skate rental sizes range from toddler’s size 8 to adult’s size 15. You may also bring your own ice skates.

Enjoy festive, only-in-San Francisco events this season ranging from the traditional to the eccentric, these entertaining holiday skating events reflect the true spirit of San Francisco and offer something for everyone:

Learn to Skate every Saturday & Sunday. Skaters with little to no experience can learn from professional skate instructors every weekend. Lessons are free (including skate rental) to those who sign up in advance.

Flashback Fridays: December 10 & January 14. Celebrate more than a decade of outdoor ice skating by throwing it back to the musical hits of everyone’s favorite decade—the ‘80s—at “Flashback Fridays.”

Macy's Great Tree Lighting: November 26. The annual great tree will be decorated with thousands of twinkling energy-efficient LED lights and shining ornaments.

Menorah Lighting: November 28-December 6. The Bill Graham Menorah Project is an annual Chanukah Menorah Lighting in Union Square and this multiday San Francisco tradition continues to shine bright.

Drag Queens on Ice: December 2. Watch some of San Francisco’s fiercest Bay Area drag queens lip-sync and skate the night away for the 11th consecutive year.

Silent Skate Party: December 9. The popular Silent Skate Party returns for one night only! A silent disco on ice, Silent Skate Party transports guests from the bustling Union Square to a skate dance party like no other. Headphones will be provided to all skaters, who can choose one of three stations to listen to as they skate.

Polar Bear Skate: January 1. Join San Francisco’s take on the popular Canadian tradition. In this version, ice skaters are encouraged to put on their bathing suit, grab their shades and “take the plunge” in the ice rink for this New Year’s Day Union Square tradition. All skaters are invited to ring in the New Year in their chicest, wildest, and most inventive beach attire in hopes of walking away with prizes, awarded on theme, originality and overall appearance.
